Local HERO needs your Help!

As a member of your community, I reach out to you and your business, in hopes that you will extend your hand to help a local hero. Vincent Cordova has been a member of the Albuquerque Fire Department for 3 years. He has helped many of our families, neighbors, and friends putting his life in danger to do so. Now Vincent needs some help of his own. He was recently diagnosed with a very rare but serious brain tumor, known medically as a "Jugular Foramen Schwannoma," which is found in only 2% of people. Vincent, being only twenty-four years old, living an active lifestyle, primarily one which is dedicated to public service, was advised by numerous neurosurgeons that the tumor needs to be removed immediately, or he faces serious health complications, and even death. Not only is the procedure a very lengthy one but it is also very costly, as you would imagine. Considering the procedure calls for an out-of-state treatment, it is also going to be very costly for him and his family to travel. Vincent will also be unable to work due to an extensive recovery process, following the procedure. I am asking for your help to raise money for Vincent, or make a donation on behalf of your business, or personally. Anything will help and will be much appreciated. After all, it is the least we can do for a young man who has played a key role in maintaining our safety and peace of mind. Please work with us, in our attempt to reduce his surgical, travel, and personal expenses, as he deals with this very unfortunate, and unexpected medical issue.
-Thank you for your support-

  21. Hi, I don't know you but as a member of the "C" Club (I have cancer also) I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. You can always reach out to me if you need to talk about it. I understand what you're going through as I was recently diagnosed in December. I had surgery on March 2nd and will be starting treatment in April. It stinks to have cancer. Well let me put it this way, it sucks. If you need people to bake something for a bake sale, I will bake a cake, cookies, bread, whatever you need. I wish I could contribute more but financially I'm not in the position to at the moment. God bless you. I posted this also on my Facebook page and asked others to donate to you...

  22. Hello there my name is Eric Mendoza I am also a firefighter for AFD. I have never had the opportunity to work with Vince or even met him. However having been a firefighter for 16 1/2 years I understand the sacrifice that not only Vince makes, but also his family and friends. The many hours not at home with his family. The holidays, birthdays, family commitments spent with co-workers and not family. We would like to help. My wife has a wonderful idea to help the family and Vince in their time of need. Please read the e-mail she has sent to every one of her co-workers.

Good morning....for those of you who couldn't make it to the fundraiser for Vincent last week, you can still help. Myself and the IAFF Local 244 are collecting money to purchase gift cards (dinning) for the family while they are out of town for Vincent's surgery. I am sure they would appreciate any help. Thank you for your support.

If you can help by either contributing a monetary donation or a gift card please contact myself at 505-620-9169 or Erica at 505-620-6421. Or feel free to contact any IAFF local 244 official. Any little bit helps

Thanks for your time. Eric and Erica Mendoza

  24. I'm adding you to our church's prayer chain.

    Father,

You are Ruler of all and the universe is ordered at Your command. You are mighty and mighty to save.

We lift Vincent to You for You to guard and to heal. Send Your angels and Holy Spirit and surround him, filling each room and activity that will have anything to do with his care. Grant his care teams and surgeons Your most perfect skill and ability, gifting them with full rest in the time they have.

Please guide the suregons hands as they operate, allow them to remove every part of the the tumors while protecting every good cell. We ask that even now You would heal Vincent and his brain, and what ever allowed these tumors to occur. Please allow his body to heal quickly, especially after surgery. Protect him from any and all infection or complication, and even inconvenience.

Grant Vincent and his family and friends Your full peace during the full time. Please open the gates of heaven to bless him and his family and other firefighters in need bountifully and beyond their need.

Take what was meant for bad and turn it into glory for Your most Holy Name. Use Vincent to spread Your Kingdom.

Through Your Son Jesus Christ and with the immeasureable power of the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen.

  25. I'd reccomend getting this out on twitter! It's so easy to tweet/re-tweet something like this, and if you get a few celebrities/athletes with big followings to put it out there, I think the donations will pour in. I sent $31 (my favorite number) and tweeted it to my followers, but I only have 350 or so. Spread the word however you can! Good luck and God Bless.

  26. Hello Vince,

My name is Kimberly; I live in San Juan Capistrano, CA and I am 41 with stage 4 breast cancer. I ran across your story today on the news and I wanted to stop by and give my love and support to you, and to let you know I will keep you in my prayers. Your story really moved me, and you are so blessed to have so much wonderful support! :) I think I read that your surgery is going to be in Los Angeles? If you or your family need anything here in So Cal, my family will be glad to help in any way we can! Stay strong, stay positive, and let all the love that is being sent your way, help to defeat this disease! My email: northbeachjazz@yahoo.com if you need anything in L.A. :)
    God Bless, Kimberly

  27. Hi Vince, just saw the story about your fellow firefighters donating some of their lottery winnings to you. What a wonderful act of kindness. Your story truly tugs at my heart strings. We live in Maryland but were married in Albuquerque in 2008 so your city is near and dear to our hearts. We are also in the medical profession and know what you are going through (especially financially). We have sent a donation through Paypal to help you and your family in this time of need. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Karen and Kerry

I live in Virginia and read your story. I was married to a Fire Fighter for 35 years and I know that you are all brothers. I will keep you in my prayers. I made a donation to help you and your family with the medical expenses. I am a nurse so I also know how expensive medical costs can be, especially in your situation. Keep your positive attitude and fight the good fight! God Bless you!

  32. Hi Vince,

I came across your story online, and it really touched me. Being only 20 myself, I can't imagine how hard this must be for you especially at such a young age. I am a volunteer firefighter in New Jersey, so it was beautful to hear how your fellow firemen have donated part of their lottery winnings for you- the brotherhood/sisterhood is such a strong bond. I made a donation to you and your family, and I will share your story with others. I will keep you in my prayers. God bless!

    1. Hi Vince,

I just saw your story on HLN and was so touched by how giving your fellow firefighters have been. Had it not been for their unselfishness, I doubt very seriously if most of us would have even heard of your unfortunate circumstances.
With that said, I've made a donation and am sending heartfelt get well wishes. I'm keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
